"All places where women are excluded tend downward to barbarism; but the moment she is introduced, there come in with her courtesy, cleanliness, sobriety, and order"- Harriet Beecher Stowe
The civil war was a critical and monumental part of the history of the United States in which it showed the division and distrust and the time between all groups, mainly the North and South with the division among politics and the topic of slavery. The Civil war signifies new beginnings for the United States as the nation came out a unified nation, with slavery abolished, and with a strong government. While Jefferson Davis and Frederick Douglass are rightfully recognized, female contributors are often overlooked despite their significant wartime efforts.
